Hindbag collaborates with Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute (SSMI), an Indian NGO that works for the emancipation of women in the underprivileged district of Punjabi Bagh, in the North-West of Delhi.

CONCRETE COMMITMENTS: SALARY, TRAINING AND EDUCATION

These women are recruited and then trained throughout their careers to make our textile accessories in the NGO's sewing and blockprint workshops. Their work remunerates them fairly (3 times the average local salary), and guarantees their children access to education in the NGO's school.

These are not donations from Hindbag, but rather a long-term and exclusive partnership with a GOTS labeled sewing workshop, committed to the emancipation of women. The work of the sewing workshop is simply remunerated at its fair value, and the profits are reinvested in the recruitment and continuous training of the seamstresses, as well as the education of the children.

Currently, 150 women work daily in the manufacture of our bags, and 750 students are educated from kindergarten to high school.

LOCAL KNOW-HOW: A PRECIOUS RESOURCE

We have chosen to highlight Indian know-how in spinning, sewing and printing. Our thick organic cotton (500mg), 100% of Indian origin, is dyed in a GOTS-certified workshop. The dyed cotton rolls are then cut in the NGO's workshop according to the patterns that our artistic director designed, then sewed together. In solid colors on the outside, many of our bags and accessories are lined with fine organic cotton printed using the block print technique. The block print is an artisanal Indian printing technique. Hollowed wooden blocks are impregnated with dye and then placed on the cotton by exerting pressure with the hand in order to print patterns by repeating the gesture.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

At Hindbag, we are committed to promoting Women Empowerment, a subject of crucial importance in India.

In a country marked by a very strong patriarchal tradition, the security and development of the condition of women is a daily challenge.

By providing training and a salary to underprivileged women, we allow them to stabilize their situation and emancipate themselves. By giving access to education to an entire neighborhood, we hope to change mentalities through future generations.
