Hindbag collaborates with Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute (SSMI), an Indian NGO which works for the emancipation of women in the disadvantaged district of Punjabi Bagh, in the North-West of Delhi.

CONCRETE COMMITMENTS: SALARY, TRAINING AND EDUCATION

These women are recruited and then trained throughout their career to make our textile accessories in the NGO's sewing and blockprinting workshops. Their work pays them fairly (3 times the local average salary), and guarantees their children access to education at the NGO's school.

These are not donations from Hindbag, but rather a long-term and exclusive partnership with a GOTS- certified sewing workshop, committed to the emancipation of women. These women make textile accessories in exchange for a salary above the country average, which values ​​their skills, continuing training and a place at school for their children.

Currently, 150 women work daily making our bags, and 750 students attend school from kindergarten to high school.

LOCAL KNOW-HOW: A VALUABLE RESOURCE

We have chosen to highlight Indian know-how in spinning, sewing and printing. Our thick organic cotton (500mg), 100% of Indian origin, is dyed in a GOTS-certified workshop. The dyed cotton rolls are then cut in the NGO's workshop according to the patterns that our artistic director designed, then sewed together. Solid colors on the outside, many of our bags and accessories are lined with fine organic cotton printed using the block print technique. Block printing is an artisanal Indian printing technique. Hollowed blocks of wood are impregnated with dye then placed on the cotton by exerting pressure with the hand in order to print patterns by repeating the gesture.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

At Hindbag, we are committed to promoting Women Empowerment, a subject of crucial importance in India.

In a country marked by a very strong patriarchal tradition, the security and development of the status of women is a daily issue.
